My name is Tara, and I was born and raised in Washington State.
Â
In 2010 I married Bill (bmac62) and retired ... two of the best choices I ever made! :)
Â
In March, 2013, we sold our home in Washington and went on the road in our RV full time. What a blast! There is so much world out there to see!
After traveling around the West for a few years, we got rid of the motorhome and are now spending winters in deep-south Texas and summers in Washington State. Spring and fall finds us visiting whichever place strikes our fancy at the time!

Well, it is obvious that you haven't lost your marbles at all, if this photograph is any indication. Great capture Tara.

There they are ;) Very cool (and dust-free) shot.

It looks like you've lost a marble. Anyway, I should wonder what the larger context of this display is, I can't for the life of me imagine a marble display. The colors are cool and it's neat, but I always want to see the bigger picture. You know, that might make a cool contest, photograph something in your own house and make it artsy.

Superb capture Tara. God bless.

The two things that stand out for me is the apparent missing marble and the fact that the markings on all the others remind me of planets. Nice solar system you have there. I'll have to try and find my collection.

I have only had one marble left for about the last 20 years...all the others are missing..hmmm???? Sorry :) just could not resist. This is a beautiful shot and those marbles are actually marble marbles. It appears that each is a different type of marble as well. I bet there is an interesting story behind your collection. Thanks for sharing a bit of your home with us.

I don't think I've seen ones like this before, which look like stone. Mine are shiny glass, and I've no idea where they are! Dusting is maybe something I might get to enjoy when I'm older.

An artistic set of billiard balls? How would you call a shot? "The mottled orange ball that looks like a map of Africa in the side pocket?" I love that one marble on the left in perfectly sharp focus, surrounded by it's fellow marbles in varying degrees of un-focus. Also, the gleams of reflected light & the wide horizontal crop. Wonderful shot...

It looks to me like you've only lost one marble...pretty good! I love how the eye goes immediately to the empty spot. Fantastic shot!

My eyes went to the center...perhaps it was your objective ? It is truth, many times we don't see our own things with the same eyes of others. Your eyes always go further and your pictures are thoughtful. This marbles are wonderful and for sure special! I agree with Jeff, but i am sure that you never will let them go ! t is a superb photo.

Those are some lovely marbles, Tara! I'm glad to see you still have yours - I lost mine years ago... You knew that was coming, didn't you? :-P Seriously, I love the light on these, and what beauties they are - I love marbles like these. No two are alike, and they all have that wonderful handmade look. Now I want some... LOL

The perspective and the format make of these inconspicuous marble balls something big. Good eye, Tara All the best for 2015

hehe, everyone like them and yours are beautiful, I have only three, - big ones 😊

I love marbles! I've lost a few too! I suspect that losing a few marbles simply adds to ones appreciation of them, and these are gorgeous! They make me think of jasper (or caramel, and I love looking at caramel; the taste isn't bad, but I prefer to just look at it.) The light is fantastic here: don't you just love natural/ambient light? It works so well in this shot and the colors are so subtle and warm and varied. This is great! For some reason now, I wanna play Chineese Checkers!

Well I guess you couldn't upload marbles without getting at least a couple of "don't lose your marbles" jokes. I'm not criticizing, considering the level of comedy I write in your gallery, but still. But Tara, these are beautiful marbles, as some of the comments attest. They're beautiful. And you said these were in your home---so you took them with you? And you photographed them in Texas? I would take them with me, if I had marbles like these. More object close-ups, which you'd done with those miniature Indian models; and this one looks like a big gathering at a pool table (something Claude picked up on). You got the many patterns, but also just the roundness of them. And the "gathering" feeling of marbles, the way they congregate. It's such an enticing photograph, considering it's just a bunch of balls crammed together. All the dark helps set them off, too. Very sweet shot, very inviting. Your low angle brings us right into them. If you ever see the film "The Color of Money" (by Martin Scorsese), he has many shots of just pool balls, in all kinds of configurations; and this reminds me of those. The term "marbles---for toy marbles---probably comes from the original meaning, meaning 'bright and shiny', rather than from the actual stone. (They're really, really old, as you may know. I mean ancient-old.) I saw lots of marbles as a kid, but never any like these. Where did you get them? They're beautiful. Really sweet capture...you did them service with your eye and sensitive postwork.
