Description
Not far from the bones of the horse is an area of Anasazi ruins. The largest and best preserved of these is known as Square House Ruins and can only be reached by ladder. At the base of the cliff is a low wall made of flat stones. Over the years visitors have left pottery shards they have found on the top of this wall.
Ancient Native American sites are protected by law. Prior to these laws persons commonly known as ‘Pot Hunters’ became rich looting the sites, carrying away priceless artifacts. Sometimes they would use heavy equipment, destroying structures and other archeological treasures. Unfortunately, U.S. laws do not apply to reservation lands and for many years the Diné ignored the traces left by the Anasazi. Today visitors can still see the buildings left behind but little else remains.

Yes, Resevation lands are not officially US territory. They belong to the native Americans so US laws do not apply to them. This is a fantastic photo. Thanks for sharing.
