Description

One of the bodies in our solar system that is truly fascinating is Europa, the moon that looks like our polar icecaps, turned into a small planet-sized ball. The moon itself has a (very) thin atmosphere, most of which is probably being blown off the moon as fast as it's vaporizing from said moon. It also seems like a very good place to look for life. So I imagined a kind of "waypost" station, orbiting the moon and assembled from components that could be shipped out from Earth in a nice slow transit. I would expect most of the "real" research would happen down on the surface, but certainly some of it will need a good well-protected lab. And I would expect plenty of scientists would be making the transit to/from said moon. I kind of mis-calculated though, and this station model ended up clocking in at over 900,000 polygons, almost to the level that would crash Bryce in a long bitter trail of tears. All of this was modeled in Bryce 6.5, and is my own creation. Most of the textures are my own as well. Europa in the background comes courtesy of the amazing things NASA has done. Thanks for taking a look everyone, and I hope you all had a good weekend! ------------ Note: this has been edited to correct the mis-naming of the moon in question. I'd earlier referred to it as "Titan" when I should have called the moon "Europa". While it's remotely possible that Titan could have life, Europa has a much higher chance of it. Thanks to ljdean for pointing it out!

Each one of these is more amazing than the last...... You really went all out on this one, Mike! This is utterly fantastic! I thought it was Io that had that weird vein-like structure, but whichever it is, your station looks amazing orbiting above it. Outstanding Bryce work, my friend!

This is amazing! I love what you've done with this place. Long way from home, eh? But it can't be, it's right there in front of me! Heh...anyway...this really rocks and I love the attention to detail here. The light's fantastic; it has that hard-vacuum look that I like so much, and yeah, Titan's an interesting place but probably kinda stinky. Really cool work! As always. This is inspiring something...I wonder what a Nemaean would have to say about this...of course based on what they build, this might be a comfortable, swanky bachelor pod; I hear those are all the rage in the Nemaean Interstellar Territories right now. :)

Excellent work on the space station model, especially considering you did it in Bryce. However, only one minor detail. The moon in the background is Jupiters moon Europa.

Gah! You're right! I can't believe I switched those names like that. How embarrassing.

So much detail in your fantastic station! It is a very sharp image with wonderful light and shadow. We will have this one day, I am sure. =)

Great station model. It looks like some of those tubes have insulation on them. Which they would need, more against Jupiter's radiation at Europa than the cold at Titan. Though it's cold at Europa too.... (sorry, had to pile on, just a little. Nice view of Europa, though)

I like how you did the solar panel truss structure. ISS-derived, but different. You got any tutorials up anywhere?

Thanks, you're right I did draw heavily from the ISS-truss setup for this. I've not made any tutorials, alas. I know that DAZ's website has a lot of tutorials, though.

The Space Ship is awesome but I must Say the Way you have Europa Looking is mindbogglingly good how did you do how did you manage to make it look that perfect I have never done one I have thought anything special about. You get a Fave from me well Done Karl

Thanks! The view of Europa came from NASA, I downloaded one of their many mosaic-shots of the moon and then composited the rendered space station into the NASA-supplied backdrop with Adobe Photoshop.

Truly awesome work my friend, gotta love copious amounts of polygons LOL. I cannot model in any version other than my modified version of 4. One of my InZects latest parts (a leg) clocks in at 1 million polys, (i know over kill but ...you know me) Keep on pushing Bryce, this is like i said awesome!

Great model. It looks great my man. I've got one nerdy nitpick: solar panels aren't effective that far out from the sun :-) That doesn't change the quality of the model though, so +1 Fave!
