Description

Can you blame us for getting a little stir-crazy here in the Southern Hemisphere ? to be precise - 'Down Under' ... We are having a heatwave, one after another - and it all feels like one ! ... and then there this abundance of tomatoes and cucumbers growing in my garden and all that is playing tricks with my mind and it 's not really Mick's fault (so don't ask, whether he did or didn't visit that Botox lady ?) It was actually a trip to the MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) via Google, where I came across a real cool looking drawing of Mick and felt, I just had to play with it (you know the way we sometimes do and use a black pen to draw on some politician (or someone we dislike) in the local newspaper, by re-arranging their faces, giving them a mustache or evil looking horns?) It gave me an idea - after harvesting this unusual and nicely shaped tomato ... (I have got another set, and they look like a pair of boxing gloves, I kid you not !) As Dr. Seuss once quoted: "I like nonsense - it wakes up the brain-cells" ... *** BTW - day temps. have been hovering around 30-37 C and nights are not under 25 C, plus high humidity, it's difficult to get a good nights rest - the best place would probably be under the bed on the cool floor-tiles ! ;P *** Cheers Brigitte ;))

And here I thought he had been attacked by bees. A very strange looking tomato and a very creative use for it.

With Andrea, Brilliant! Just terrific. Your way with these reworkings, blends, re-interpretations of your own (or other people's) works is just dead-on. Intuitive to the core. I love what you did to this! The underlying drawing looks like a Warhol. Maybe it's not---I mean the lines could be even Picasso, but I don't think Picasso drew Mick Jagger. To me, it shouts Warhol or someone like him. But whoever it is, you have the spirit of Warhol working inside you in this piece, you just dived in and did this bang-up, fast, slap-dash, terrific interpretation of that great iconic face. And when I say "fast" and "slapdash," I don't mean it took you 2 seconds! I mean it FEELS that way, even if it took you a long time. That isn't easy, getting an image to feel like it just exploded into existence the moment before. (Warhol did that---as you can see, I think a great deal of Warhol's art.) You got that immediate get-to-the-core feeling that Warhol got when he dived into a photo. The tomato is brilliant (keep those tomatoes! you can use them in other art too---they're right up your alley as an artist!), and your plaster wall portions in his hair---like we're looking at a sanded down plaster wall---and the whitening of some sections are just terrific. It feels like Jagger too, you didn't lose him in the process. 50 stars, terrific "zen" work! ("Zen" because zen art was supposed to feel like it came out of the artist in a 'flash'---whoosh---it was supposed to feel immediate, intuitive and "in a split second".) I love it this. Great job! (ps, sorry about your constant heat wave! Do you guys have air conditioning? is it really costly the way it is here? I know heat/humidity has a way of falling all over whatever one does. Sorry you're inundated---we northerners forget, you guys are getting pummeled down there. I hope relief comes soon. I'll send a jar of Chicago January to you---just open it and I guarantee that one jar will cool your place off for a month. Hope it gets cooler soon...)

LOL Totally awesome imagination at work here Brigitte ! Aw that lippy looking tomato adds even more character to Mickey J's. distorted features. Wow that high heat and humidity would drive me crazy.... P.S. Dr. Suess was right if he meant having a good laugh was part of the equation ! ! I sure did. Great job Brigitte...

Well dear friend your Tomato-Mick looks like he has a red pepper pierce him in his mouth. But...looking still fresh for such an old geezer! :D This is really stunning made, dear BB-chen, I swear you made Mick with full dedication, and a lot of fun. I hope you hang this on your wall, so always when you see this kind of pepper-tomato, you will smile from ear to ear, and over again. I'm sorry I'm so late to write, I feel torn down, and have to take it easy and slow ;-)
