Description

Hi, everyone. Been a while since I did a render which I was confident enough in to post. I've been using Octane for a while now, and continue to learn the limits and capabilities of this amazing engine. Anyway, the scene I put together here are not all my original models. It was more a render I put together to get back to experimenting with realism, and materials in the Octane renderer. The character model is the BWoman001 from AXYZ Metropoly Evolution 2 character set. Rigged with Biped (CS) in 3dsmax, but with some custom work done in 3DCoat as well. I faced some challenges with this character's geometry. There were edge loops going in strange directions, and sculpting over those in surface mode was not working out well. You can see a slight crease on her left breast as a result of bad topology. The medallion she is wearing there is a freebie model, created by the extremely talented and helpful member of the 3dsmax community, Luxxeon, and it is available for download in both 3dsmax and OBJ formats. You can find it in his freestuff here: http://www.renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/?search=LuxXeon&newest The scene was exported to Octane via the Max2Octane maxscript, and then all custom materials were applied to each node. The render contains ONLY an HDR environment. No physical lights were used. Rendered with the Direct Lighting/Diffuse kernel. 10 reflection bounces, and 8 glossy bounces. 3 diffuse light bounces. Rendered in about 30 minutes with SSS shader for skin on my Geforce GTX 870, with 3GB RAM. Thanks for looking.

I can't tell you how gratifying it is to hear you talk about bad topology being a problem when sculpting. I thought it was just my own lack of skill, and everyone else just knew techniques I didn't. It's also really good to see you post some Octane performance information on the GTX 870. I follow an Octane user who gets great results in good time, but he has two Titan Z's. If that's what's necessary to get good performance out of Octane, I've got to pass on it.

Quite fabulous actually... the skin has that oily look without being all juicy and succulent. And... I just love Octane!

Thank you very much! It depends on the monitor, too. I noticed the highlights in this render are overblown when viewed on my LCD monitor at work, but on my laptop and workstation, they look as expected. If your monitor is gamma corrected, I assume it will make a differnce.,
