Hi, I'm Marilyn. Â I've been posting here on RR for a few years now and thought it was time to update my profile. Â It's been wonderful learning so much from the amazingly talented people here. Â I've had the chance to meet many in person and some have become great and good friends. Â Starting with a Kodak Brownie camera when I was about 7 or 8, moving up to Instamatics, Polaroids, then the Pentax K1000 that really got me on the way, I've been looking at the world thru a lens for a long time. Â Got the bug honestly; my dad was a photographer and gave me the gene!! Â Digital changed the world and I jumped in with both feet. Â You would've gone thru 100's of rolls of film in one day the way we can shoot and delete all day long. Â Progess...it can be awesome sometimes.
At any rate, RR rocks, the talent is over the top and I'm just gonna keep on shooting!!
Thanks for looking and keep those cameras rollin'!!
peace.....marilyn

I love that beach! I really wanna come out thataway and visit it. OK...I have to settle into live in Berwyn, which is easier done than said, since my neighbors rock. And hey, one of my neighbors is moving to California. He's a musician. Anyway, this is a really nice shot. I like the mood it has. I get the impression it was a little bit windy and brisk. And the title makes me think of a song. "The Bird on the Beach." I don't know why, but it just sounds like something that would have a kind of instrumental jazz-improv vibe to it.

Every so often, the "Ratings" button doesn't work, it just sits there. So I can't leave you a 5 star rating. I know that doesn't ruin your day, but just wanted you to know I'd give you the rating if I could, as all your images are 5 stars. This is a wonderful introspective capture, the light and the dark blue-gray tint makes it feel like a memory. Your composition is terrific---that one lone bird on the left is in strong contrast to everything behind him, because he's so well lit by comparison. And he looks out, away from the shot. It has an almost 19th C novel feel---if anyone wrote an epic novel about an abandoned bird, who spends the novel trying to re-find his past. Wonderful how the plants behind him are almost like a crown or mane. Then the other side is water in that memory-hued silvery tone, with those dark logs and a lone bird or two. It's wonderfully dark and brooding. And that solo bird on the left makes the shot---like he's contemplating life, with all this mystery around him. It's terrific, Marilyn. You caught a great moment. The melancholy and mystery of the sea. (I owe you a letter, btw, I really do. I'll write as soon as I comment on the next, most recent image.)
