Description

There is evidence that there was a church in Oberammergau as early as the 9th century.First there was a wooden church, then a Romanesque one during the Middle Ages, followed by a Gothic building. In 1735 began the construction (under Joseph Schmutzer) of the present Rokkoko Church when the existing church showed considerable damage. The current church was consecrated in 1749.
