Friday morning was especially cold for us, here in Michigan. When I left for work temperature was -11 degree Fahrenheit (-24 degrees Celsius for the sane part of the world that uses metric) and the low temperature a few hours earlier had been a good 10 degrees colder! All of which made the drive to work that morning rather unpleasant. My car was noticeably reluctant to start, in fact. However, my path crossed this stream, that passed directly under the road I was on. The water was flowing in that stream quickly enough that most of it was not covered over by ice, except for the backwater area right before it flowed under the roadway. That open water was creating a fascinating display, as moisture evaporated from the stream, then coated the trees and bushes immediately round the creek with a layer of frost. If you walked ten feet away from the stream, the frost would immediately stop, with almost no transition. A knifeblade-like slash of white cutting through the trees, twisting about as it followed the stream bed. As I drove over, the sun has just starting to cut through the trees, and lighting up parts of the frost. Naturally my car once again stopped and tossed me out, insisting that it would go no further unless I took some pictures of that magical place. How could I refuse that?
