I was standing at a safety barrier looking out at the Bryce landscape when I saw this, Gk+MK. Romantic, don't you think? One person's expression of undying love for another.
I'm not sure I feel that way anymore.
Shortly after I came home from my trip there was news about a woman who had left her "art" in ten national parks, including Bryce, scattered across the United States. She had used acrylic paint and posted the vandalism on her Instagram account under the name 'Creepythings'.
We humans have some things in common with dogs. We can be loyal and courageous. By nature we are pack animals. And we have an almost irresistible urge to mark our territory. Perhaps I should be grateful GK didn't spray paint the hoodoos. That's progress I suppose.

Wonderful capture as for the 'lady artist' and I use that term very loosely, I hope they catch her and fine her tens of thousands of dollars, make her clean up (remove) her art and never be allowed to touch any form of art media

People's selfish stupidity never ceases to amaze me.Does this moron think anyone would celebrate her work or is she a masochist just looking to be pissed on? Agree with bebo, except I would either crush them or cut them off, A fine is too easy, cut it off at the source so to speak.

Wonderful image, somehow romantic! As for the "artist": i'm not the "hang'em high"-type of guy, i'm with mike.

Graffiti/etchings and the like are all so very interesting to me. They're evidence of humans, and that particular form of communication will outlast the individuals who created it. There's some rather amazing (and telling) ancient Roman graffiti out there, and it represents both the best and the worst that humans are capable of. The same goes for the acrylic lady who saw fit to "claim" something kept in trust for a whole society. I could go on and on about that, but ultimately, it seems as if she's a knuckle-dragging atavism whose brain simply exists in order to keep her from sucking her hair down her throat whenever she inhales. Now, as for this declaration: it's funny how little it's changed over the centuries. There's ancient Roman stuff that looks exactly the same way (yep, cartoon-hearts are an ancient Roman invention, right up there with pornography, indoor plumbing, the laundromat, and really cheesy dinner theater.) I saw the same thing in Prague, dating back to the 1300s, and if that indicates anything, then it's that humans are at least consistent. I rather like this, however, as it implies so much, and it's rather touching, especially since declarations such as these often outlive the relationships they represent. And maybe that's the point: an attempt to immortalize something with a mayfly lifespan, an attempt to hold and crystallize a moment...or even on a more romantic note, an attempt to hold a piece of youth, especially as (in a perfect world, at least) GK and MK might have returned to that spot, decades later (with walkers and replacement hips and dentures) to see those initials and to realize that they're still together! OK...realistically, probably not, but still...that seems to be the one thing everyone hopes when they immortalize their surging hormones and the need to croon schmaltzy love songs at one another. It's kinda sweet. Sort of. This is a fantastic image. It's quite telling. Great use of light as well.
