Description

Bill has been going through his family photographs while working on his genealogy, and it's been fun to see some of those pictures. He has several prints, as well as a box of original glass-plate negatives. Not only is Bill a photographer, but his father and step-mother were both accomplished photographers as well. This means he has a lot of really good pictures, as opposed to a lot of poorly done family snapshots. :) We've been scanning some of those old pictures. Bill is scanning the ones he wants to use on Ancestry, and I've scanned the ones I want to consider for composite blends. The main image here is a photograph Bill's father took of HIS father, who was known as Pop. Bill's dad not only pushed the button on the camera, but he developed the image himself in a couple different versions. The "dreaming" images are scans of prints and glass-plate negatives. What a gift it is to have access to such photographic riches! :) I thought I'd introduce you to some of these images in a composite all their own. You'll probably see more from this treasure-trove later, because there's bound to be times when something from Bill's collection is just the thing I'm looking for. :)

Wonderfully done, especially the 'floating' memories as he daydreams.

What a gift indeed! I did something similar years ago for my late grandmother, taking her all the way back to Europe. Thank you for giving us a glimpse into a vanished world. I hope to see more.

Bill's grandfather - quite a long ways back! Beautiful composite work. Dreamy, to say the least. A real photographic work of art. I'm glad to see you and Bill back on Rendo. There's a lot of good work here and I have a bit of a time keeping up, let alone doing things to be posted. But, I have missed you two! Keep up the good work and my regards to Bill! :-) And a Happy Easter to you both!

My Grandfather snoozing in a wicker rocker on his sun porch in 1935...as T. Rex says above...this goes back quite awhile:) I see dreamy visions from my life as it was back in the 1940s and early 50s. Hope you'll do more with some of the other photos. I'll treasure them for sure. Beautiful composition and blending. Love what you've done here, Hon

For a fleeting moment there, I thought that this was a scene from an old famous movie, the silent kind - if you know what I mean ? maybe Rudolph Valentino or Clark Gable relaxing and day-dreaming in that rocking chair and all the other actors are also ready to make appearances forthcoming ... a nice touch in the muted black & white tones Tara, BB

A fine job of blending of photos together, with Pop in the rocker providing a unifying element tying them all together. One thing that popped out at me almost immediately is a ghostly (& ghastly) head in profile (facing left) at the top, with the basket in the woman's hand being an eye & the edge of her dress being a ragged nose. I have lots of old family photos that I inherited from my parents as well & maybe one day I will do something with them (or maybe not)...

What a wonderful legacy this is! I can see where Bill gets his talent for capturing timeless images. This is wonderful, Tara! You two make one hell of a team! :-D

Ahh yes, this is daydreaming alright. I can see it from all the thoughts he has in his favorite rocking chair. Superb mix, Tara :)

it was so nice to see you keep posting at this time, and this is a beautiful dreamy image of Bill's past. The actual shot of Bill's father is so relaxed and classic. He looks like he's basking in the sun and in rest. Your other montaged images waft into the light beautifully, with glimpses into a family that goes way into the past, with what even looks like a married couple in the right corner, dreamily appearing in the curtain shadows...I love the old car back there, and the other smaller images whispering into the whole. And the bottom half---for 'ground'---is all mist and rest, the place from which this dream seems to rise. It's beautiful, Tara, and a dreamy addition to the bevy of family photos that Bill's been going through. I've done the same recently, for a relative's genealogy, and I started to do blends myself. But so far nothing approaches this piece. This is a gentle beautiful vision, with beautiful faces; and showing that, despite your serious eye problem, you're still thinking and feeling art. Beautiful work, and perfect in that dreamy soft gray and white. All of a piece...it's an organic beauty.

A penny for his thoughts! One World War out of the way but other trouble brewing (hmm, isn't it always?) We suppose that life is more complicated now, but is it? We take so much for granted now that it's difficult to judge. It would be great to know for sure!! Thanks for sharing this treasured find!

So lovely to have boxes of memories to look into.. I have little left now, lost or thrown away by 'uncaring' relatives.. Those that remain are generally of people withered by cancer.. Good most people don't have this.. Great gift for Bill and lovely photo by the way.. Rob
