I love these glimpses into other worlds: you capture them so perfectly and what I like is the fact that your postwork doesn't change what we are seeing so much as just allows us a different way into it. Photography is wonderful, absolutely perfect for what it does, but there are times when straight photography only captures a small fraction of what is there: your postwork and the choices that you make in terms of it are always perfect, always engaging, and always wonderfully elegant. This is a marvelous piece of work.

I've been too tired to do any real exploratory art in the last few months, but for some occasional abstracts. When I come here, I realize all I'm missing. Except that I couldn't do what you do. The blues and purples here are deeply expressive (expressionistic use of color), the composition---the street narrowing as it moves up and into the light, and the hovering walls on each side---gives this a feeling of penetration, of going deep into the soul of a place. The attention to the details of the walls, the decay and shapes, your postworked emphases and de-emphases, make the walls feel like layers of age and humanity unfolding before our eyes. And the people, gathered in the upper quarter of the street, give it a human grounding......but we feel their presence 'inside' these walls as well as outside. A big introspective journey. Your hues and shadow, and treatment of shape and decay, etc, along with the basic composition itself, make it another penetration into the inner life of a city street. Brilliant and inward, and again I am moved and opened by what you do. I realize I haven't fav'd yet, today---that's just because I was totally wound up in the art. So a fav for all of them: Brilliant vision, Nikolay. Just brilliant...

The shadows of blue and purple (which of course shadows generally are, so the colors here are just right) make me feel the chill in the air. Just a minute, my friend, while I go grab a sweater.

This takes my breath away - and not because of the chill in the air here, but I feel overwhelmed by such an intricate and detailed view, only a small part of the city ... and it's the different blue hues who give it the depth and feeling of another days end, work is done ... and time to go home now. It's favourite in books again, Nikolay BB PS - Sorry, for being only spasmodically around, to cruise the galleries, a little too busy lately to comment and even less time to post.
