Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Holland Queen. She's beautifully-dressed. I love the crisp colors: they're so deliciously warm and the intimacy of this shot is really appealing. Though I'm quite fond of insects (which would look at this and simply think: "Salad!" I have to say that I love plant forms as well: let's face it, I like anything alive...except ticks and bedbugs, and anything that sees me as a food or reproductive resource, but that's a topic for another conversation.) This is brilliant. Those dew-drops are magical.

Wow what a gorgeous picture of this beautiful tulip. The raindrops are a added bonus.

so fun you posted this "queen"today, because : many years we had our queens-day, but today... we have kings-day, just today so my country is an orange madness today again

What a brilliant image! She is quite the showoff. This would make a good design for a dress.

it's huge, full size, and it oozes with tulip-dom, soaked on deep yellows and deep reds, and looking like a big chilled desert or salad. It's delectable. I didn't think your digifiddled tulip was the purple one, but seeing this makes me understand why you'd jump in and go for the cosmos in a tulip: It's quite commanding, in full view. And with those water drops, it's a delicate dessert. Big bold luscious shot, Andrea. A real eye catcher. (And btw, re Chip's great comment: Insects prefer their salads at room temperature. I say this because I know several insects on a first-name basis---they come in and diss my art, and even rework the stuff when I'm not looking---and they've said, many times: "Room temperature, skip the water-drops---too soggy---a little basil, a little olive oil, we're happy..." One fly left me a book of photos, with the note: "READ this. Learn how to shoot, for god's sake!" He's got a Leica. $20,000. A Billingham bag. Shops on Jermyn Street. I get classy bugs in my place...)
