Description

This is the Durbar square in the old city centre of Kathmandu, on a peaceful and sunny afternoon, in the month of April....years before the earthquake and devastation we've heard of lately...

The splendor and the fabulous ancient temples and Durbar squares of Bhaktapur and Patan, the former capital cities of Nepal, were also hit by the earthquake and are now a gigantic mess of debris. This being said, people in Nepal need basic supplies and they need them ...now.

Thank you very much for your comments on my last photo of the Bodnath stupa of Kathmandu.

Jean-Luc, thank you for sharing this capture as well as you're thoughts on the horrible earthquake that devastated this tranquil place. You are right that we need to come together and do what ever it takes to provide the people of Nepal with what ever they might need.

I have almost no words for what I feel, this is so terrible for all the people involved, and of course for all the cultural treasures that have been lost, my hope is that everyone receives all the help they need as soon as possible .. ..beautiful capture, my friend ***

Bravo !

It really is very sad to know that this beautiful historic buildings are destroyed. Especially for a poor country like Nepal, which depends on tourism, is a total disaster. A fantastic photo, hopefully there is a way to rebuild these buildings.

its a fantastic capture of outstanding architecture! I hope that not much is destroyed by the horrible cathastrophe! so sorry and sad for all the people in that area! and I agree with Reinhold Messner that they should help at first the inhabitants and not the tourist because they where more save and have docs around! ;o)

So awful for a nation dependent on tourism to have its treasures destroyed. There doesn't seem to be an upside to this situation at all. One can only pray and hope for the Nepalese. And give what we can to the DEC appeal, of course. Thanks for sharing...
