I've wanted to find words for this image for a while now, and I'm not sure I'm going to succeed. But many of your images, including of very distinct animals, have broad areas of texture and hue, whether it be animal fur, the undulating morphing surfaces of flowers and plants, or of skies, deserts, etc. But this image is 'segmented', you have many entities so clearly etched and defined (ie, the dragonflies); and they're massing around a center that's equally etched and defined. What makes it different--even though this is a Carol image through and through---is the number of distinct dragonflies amassed around this dream catcher, which itself is segmented as if it were a spider web, or a sacred hoop with intersecting lines. The lines, of course, give the d.flies something to stand on, but they also create a more geometric design which is found in nature as much as flowing forms are. So when one sees this at first, they're struck by a compilation, a gathering...And you articulate this gathering with the most beautiful hues (of the chakric rainbow), which are visible on the webwork as well as on each dragonfly---and I see you have 7 dragonflies on the d.catcher---for the 7 chakras---and therefore 7 different hues. Each place you have a dragonfly, the hues "transfer" to the webwork---and yet the hues on the webwork remain fluid. Ie, they're not segmented, so much as flowing from one to the other. (In harmony with the whole vision of chakras, being energy-places more than actual "things". While we tend to think of chakras as concrete 'places', they're more centers of flowing energies, where the energies are always in motion between them. Fluidity...) The top fly has beautiful sun-yellow accents. And your background is one of those to-die-for backgrounds you make, with furrowing light energies flowing into space, and with a big deep opening in the center, flanked by waves of light on each side---kind of like "the parting of the waters". And your 'ground' (the lowest portion of the image) is more of your deep greenish-blue hues---with some marked purple---that you've used for grounds in other works---a swirling mass of lights and energies as your base, your groundwork. (With a couple of d.flies making their way through it, as if under water. There's a d.fly on top too: If I've missed others, mea culpa: I see three in the background of this piece.) It all opens to a sunny yellow on top...It's an image of a big deep canyon in the middle opening to the sky on the top; and the clarity of the dragonflies and webwork is beautiful against all that. Once again, you've painted a very vivid vision of chakric energies, as if we could see all this if we only had the right lenses on our eyes. Beautiful and sensuous, the inner life of chakras painted in very vivid nature imagery. Beautiful work, Carol.
