Description

Captured 4/5/12 @ 2:06 pm, at the semi beautiful El Dorado Nature Center in beautiful Long Beach, California I believe these photos are of the same stump. There are some minor stumps in the background of the top shot that I will post soon. Have a nice day.

Excellent shots of this anomalous stump; did it grow at that odd angle or was it a deadfall that was left in place until it was half-buried, I wonder?

I swear, the first shot looks like a Civil War burial ground for tree stumps. I can't explain why, it just has this 100-plus year old feel to it, and it feels like a burial ground. I love those stumps back there, and I love that you caught them behind this tree. They're lined up almost in order, as they would be in a memorial ground. And the front stump is like a work of art (with a bow to prutzworks), jutting up a few feet. In fact, if you look closely, you can see a whale's face in the trunk...well, if you look really hard...And the trunk also has "stumps"---I mean those disc-like shapes, which I assume are from branches that were cut down. It's such a fascinating find, Harry! And your angle puts us right into the trunk area, leaving the trees and sky in the background as secondary to this exotic array. Your second shot is the eaten-away insect-born remains of an old once-noble creature; and it's amazing that it's the same creature as the top one. Also it looks like it has big stakes in it---fascinating shot. Both are. Most unusual captures, Harry. And I like the pinkish tones too.
