Description
Greetings Folks,
Taken at the Summer show at Duxford and brought out having discovered how to work photoshop, here in all her glory is the Westland Sea King HAR3A(SAR), that's Search and Rescue..
This one is, until end of summer this year when they are replaced by a private know doubt crap company (not British) using smaller, cheaper and worse aircraft, based with No 27 Squadron at RAF Waddisham..
This aircraft being the same type HRH was flying in the RAF, but in Anglesey, Wales.
Details are zoomable.
News : a real actual Bf109G will be at Legends, yeah, I know!!!!
And Cosford now has a MiG 29 flying..
Enjoy
Rob

Mate ! These are legendary and it's devastating to see them go. Not only do they look the part but they do the job too so why replace them. In Britain the norm seems to be privatise everything to the point where the people have no control over anything anymore.

Beautiful shot of a real work horse! Sad to see them go, but they're probably all worn out after all the years of sterling service. But, as you say, replaced by smaller, more expensive clap-trap stuff. But, who knows, in 30 years time we may be saying the same about the clap-trap? She'll never let you down? Seems as though you're stuck up there until she runs out of fuel (then she HAS to let you down!). :-) Neil has tattled a wee bit about you two meeting and that there are secret plans for the Plant! Oops! Now I divulged something I maybe shouldn't have??? :-)

Great capture! I gotta agree with Neil about the rotor blur, especially the glint of sunlight on the tail rotor! Even here in the US they are becoming more and more rare finds, although I believe the US Coast Guard may still be using some.

Nicely done! I'm not much for helicopters - I prefer my wings "fixed" - but one has to appreciate the Sea Kings. Perhaps the rotary world's DC-3? All I know is the RCN/RCAF guys I know would not trade theirs for anything.

Stunning capture! you can bet good money that money crossed hands before the vote was even called to make sure that the fleet was retired and replaced
