Description

Part two - Thundershield (Please zoom for deyails) The three next scenes from my play about Peter Wessel Tordenskjold (Thundershield) a famous Danish-Norwegian naval hero from the early 1700s. Superior in naval tactics and surprising inland attacks the Swedes never can feel safe anywhere, both at seas and along their coasts. The Swedish king has a strong very well trained army making havoc in Northern German states, in Poland, Baltic Territories like an Early Napoleon but king Charles does the same mistake to bring the war into the huge Russian territories where he meets Peter the Great's endless armies. Charles army finally loses and all achievements, too. King Charles escapes to Turkey while almost all his men were dead or captured. The Danish-Norwegian king, Frederik the 4. sees his opportunity to invade Sweden and get lost territories back but before that King Charles surprisingly gets back to Sweden and immediately starts an attack into Norway. The attack is somewhat immature because the Swedes is lacking both supplies and bigger guns. Thundershield raids heavily with his ships and troops along the Swedish western coast and smashes and stealing supplies and ships so the Swedish king gets stuck at the Norwegian border fortress, Frederiksten.. Scene 4. King Charles, the Swedish king. A dream Thundershield tells to Christian. Here Thundershield meets the Swedish king Karl the 12. which tells that the two men are like a mirror - both very ambitious and headstrong men. You are me and I am you..Thundershield is somewhat shaken.. Scene 5. The vice-admiral Thundersheld is accused by his enemies in the Danish-Norwegian navy for not following orders and engaging in a dangerous frivolous combat against a much bigger Swedish ship. But very eloquent and somewhat disrespectful, he produces the Navy prosecutor, as a total ignorant on the subject of naval warfare. The leading navy admirals support Thundershield in court, and not least important, the Danish-Norwegian king Fredrik 4. He amuses by the young energetic naval commander who from now on can call himself vice admiral. Thundershield returns to the "White Eagle Pub" and afterwards entertains his friends with the outcome of the trial with a song. But now suddenly Thundershield hears that the Swedish King Charles's just is dead in war in Norway. What now? Scene 6. Sailing my boat .. The war continues and the Danish autocracy king Frederik 4. has expressed a desire to know something about the Swedish army's operations as well as to know whether the Scanians are still Danish-minded after 50 years Swedish rule after a former war between Denmark-Norway and Sweden. Thundershild takes the king at his word and by a boat in the middle of the night he sails across the Sound over to enemy Sweden to obtain informations. Chrisitian participating in the trip and almost scares to death over the sea travel in a little boat. The boatswain and the crew singing the "boatswain-song.. This is the second part of the play, a cabaret, partly farcelike with both humor and drama. The lines above is just the overall story, and not the often (hopefully) funny dialoge between the two complete opposite characters, the heroic Thunderchild and his loyal valet, the very cautious Christian. The play is of course written in Danish but also Swedish & German appear as it reflects the nationalities participating. Maybe one fourth in Copenhagen was German speaking as the Danish-Norwegian kingdome includes German speaking areas. The army language was actually German (many officers were German) but the Danish-Norwegian Navy speak Danish (Norwegian was very close related language). To complete the palet of languages, the king and nobles often preferred French.. More to come - have a very pleasant week end! :o) Rhanagaz / JohnnyC.
