Description

Captured back on 2/17/12, early on an overcast morning, not far from home. The ironic thing is that the rest of the property is in good shape. Cheerybye.

This illustrates the reason why we chose to install a vinyl fence years ago versus the wooden one you show here. Finding the time to keep up a wooden fence along with the other duties of a residence can be a challenge. Obviously it is either a low priority or the owners of this property simply haven't the time to address it. Interesting catch though, the peeling paint presents some nice real life texture.

It has definitely seen better days! And then was clearly tagged, and someone tried to hide the tagging, which made it only marginally better. Time to either sand and paint it, or replace it completely, I think. Great find and superb captures, Harry!

2 fascinating comments here, and very interesting about the tagging (Denise). Even more amazing is that you tell us the rest of this place is in good shape! Another of your urban-sight journalism, capturing the real life of everything in the city. As a pure visual, the upper shot is fascinating, in its play between the fence slats and the bland gray concrete blocks, with textures created by striations across those blocks. It's kind of a geometric abstract. The peeled paint and exposed wood add drama to the machine-like strictness of the blocks. (And a tad of green in the upper right---I like that accent very much; a geometric piece.) The bottom piece is a closeup, where we see the many colonies and underpinnings of decay. And both shots show just how rich the decay is, and how much 'music' it has. And I like the rust-red-pink tone of the fence too, a fine contrast to that gray around it. With Denise, great find and presentation. (The peeling couldn't have come from any recent rains, that's for sure! You'd think the owners would hire someone to strip and repaint it. It's a glorious mess!)
