Description
Greetings Folks,
Duxford, this was the first airfield to have an operational Squadron of Spitfires..
This was the home of the 'Big Wing' during the Battle and also this was the home airfield of Douglas Bader..
History, loads and loads of history..
Picture now the sound filling the sky as this squadron of Spitfires strains to reach intercept height before the Luftwaffe arrives over England..
I don't think I need add more..
In this swarm, is the Historic Flight Foundation's Spitfire LF IXE (based at Paine Field, 'Gumpy' the B-25 is there as well), and also up there is the rare Rolls Royce Spitfire PR XIX, this is rarely shown..
I'll show these in close ups flying later, but for now.. Imagine this in 1940.....

I can imagine the roar of engines straining to pull the planes to altitude. Great shot! Imagine being able to take photos like this of the real thing in 2015 as though we're back in 1940. Fantastic! Looking forward to more. The flight controllers must be having their hands full, planes without modern navigation or communication equipment all up there somewheres! Looking forward to more! :-)

ACHTUNG SPITFIRE! You gotta know the Luftwaffe boys would not have been happy to see this formation anytime during the war. Ultra-cool!

One word to sum it up: WOW I am green with envy. Have I mentioned Legends in on the bucket list? :)

Tallyho on this great composition of Supermarine Spitfires, soaring up to intercept the fleets of Junkers 87s and Heinkel He111s on their way to unleash their ordnance on Britain, mate.

This is absolutely epic, Rob! I can imagine the sound of all those engines! This could be right out of the Battle of Britain. What an amazing photo!
