Description
Greetings Folks,
This one is for Roger, as I know he likes Rare aircraft and this one certainly is that..
This is the only Merlin engined Seafire anywhere in the world.. And, note the look on the pilots face as he glances towards his ground crew, this was its first ever public display.. It only flew again in July this year!
She was built in 1943 by Westland and delivered to the FAA (Fleet Air Arm), she transferred to No 809 Squadron two months later..
She was part of HMS Stalkers air attachment in the East Indies Fleet, which consisted of six Carriers these covered various landing including the Rangoon operations..
At present, its not known if she has any kills to her credit (FAA are still checking records), but as she spent over two years in covering operations and offensive sweeps its assumed she has a couple..
The marking are as she had in service..
She was found in 1966 a wreak in France and now this...
Works for me!
Enjoy
Rob

Fantastic restoration job, particularly after all those years exposed to weather and other destructive forces. With so few Seafires in existence compared to other Spitfires I wonder if there are any flying Seafires at all. Also, how much of this is original plane material and how much is replacement parts? I see 4 prop blades in the blur. Is it taking off or landing? The pilot must feel a dreadful amount of responsibility flying such a rare piece! Very well taken photo - the plane is sharp. High speed indicated by background blur. Excellent job, Rob! Keep it up! :-)

What a rare beauty! Thanks so much for the excellent pic, Rob. It's planes like this that need to be restored to actual condition and flown (carefully). Hard to do considering the amount of deterioration that years of neglect can bring. BTW, we can't forget the contributions of the RN in the Pacific during WWII. The Seafire was front line back in the day. Thanks for reminding us!

Fabulous and beautiful capture Rob!!!! I'm thinking that some of the big money people need to get together and start production of these aircraft!

Lovely old girl.

Beauty! Hard to believe they operated off carrier decks, with that delicate, narrow undercarriage! Looking closely I can see the arrestor hook protruding slightly, just ahead of the tail wheel.

A great capture of this beauty, Rob! They did a magnificent restoration job on her!

Another great capture of a WWII aircraft, this one the naval equivalent of the Supermarine Spitfire. Love the prop blur, the markings, and the job you did locking onto the plane as it sped down the grassy tarmac, Mate, in turn making a blur of the terrain.
