Description

"In the first six to twelve months of a war with the United States and Great Britain I will run wild and win victory upon victory. But then, if the war continues after that, I have no expectation of success." Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto. After the initial glow of establishing their "Economic Prosperity Sphere," had faded, the scale of the job of sustaining their new possessions in the face of stirring global opposition began to sink in. Apparently it wasn't "Game Over." Remember the Japanese Empire got to this point by applying overwhelming force of numbers against complacent European colonial outposts (where more than a fair share of "second raters" had been exiled), and mostly against targets easily found on a map. Alas, just as patronising Westerners got their assessment of Japan's capabilities wrong, the "pacifist" Europeans proved to be less cowardly than the hopeful fairy tale coming from the War Gamers would have it. High Water was reached at the fifth month, in the Coral Sea in May 1942. It was supposed to be a side-show, an unimportant naval operation to cap-off the invasion of New Guinea. Unimportant because the days of "running wild" across South East Asia and covering the horizon with vast fleets were over. That's when Pearl Harbor's chickens first came home to roost, so to say. The commanders of the Port Moresby operation faced a snag. Where exactly had America's vanishing carriers got to NOW? Assets Nakajima B5N2- This is Gunpoint 3D's Nakajima B5N1 with its original engine mesh rendered transparent and a customised engine cowling added to "upgrade" to B5N2. I've retextured using a Shokaku relevant camo scheme and finished off with my own prop-blur and Type 91 torpedo Aichi D3A1- my model Other assets as in previous posting.

I can hear the roaring engines... This incident was only two months after the fall of the Philippines and Dutch East Indies (a battlefield rarely mentioned). Well done.
