Description

This was taken back in 2011 at Hot Springs, S. Dakota. A large number of skeletal remains of mammoths were found here where they are thought to have slipped into a large steep sided pond thousands of years ago. The remains are in a very good state of preservation.

recently a farmer digging a drainage ditch came across the skeleton remains of a Mammoth . the remains had complete tusks and rib cage. they think some prehistoric hunters had killed it and placed the meat in a pond to return later

Wasn't that a wonderful place? I went there too, but you got much better shots than I did. Very cool indeed, Jeff.

This is truly an amazing place, and even more so as it's an ongoing dig. The guide was explaining how they dig with dental picks and small brushes. Every grain of dirt is collected and checked for microscopic fossils. A fascinating place to visit.

We stayed at the hotel about a block from this site, and it was the first place we visited as the day was cold and rainy.
