Description
All over Prague, there are Thai Massage parlors. This one was just a few blocks from the apartment we were renting & unlike most of them, offered passerbys a clear view of what was going on. In the background, Thai women were rubbing the feet of customers, but right in the front window, this couple were dipping their feet in a tank filled with little fish. These are known as doctor fish & supposedly eat the dead skin off your legs. Seems kind of unsanitary to me to be dipping your feet into the same water as other customers. Theoretically, they don't let you do it if you have any sores on your legs, but I'd still be worried about the risk of infection. And it just seemed like a bizarre practice to me...

bizarre yes but a candid shot

Most unusual...maybe they change the water between customers??? But it sure makes for a colorful photo. Thanks for the glimpse through the window:)

Don't think so, Bill - it would be too time-consuming & what would they do with the hundreds of fish?

Strange practices, eh? Cool to see!

Great shot, but I bet a million dollars they aren't changing that water! NO WAY!

They sure do look relaxed....

I couldn't relax with all those overpowering colours round me!

I've seen news reports here in the states worrying about how unhealthy or unsanitary this might be. I'll pass, but cool shot!

Oh no, not me!! I'm not putting my legs in that water with those fish. They'd tickle and wiggle and I'd be thrashing around like a crazy woman. I'm a little uncomfortable just thinking about it! LOL! But it's a great shot, and I'm glad you shared it. One day someone will say to me, "Have you ever heard of this thing with the fish," and I'll be able to say I had, and I'll amaze my friends with my store of arcane knowledge. :P

As subject material, it's a wonderful photo. Something truly exotic to the American---and maybe European---eye. As a photo, it's even more. It's a big contrast piece---with those saturated reds above, and saturated yellows; and then the saturated blues below. And the things that pull both worlds together? The two massag-ees. (Go along with the word, I know it doesn't exist.) They are the creatures who pull it all together. And with all that glitz and gllitter, they're so serious, they almost add a touch of humor to the piece, even though they may be in a meditative state. The pictures above are what some of my Indian (asian) friends called "buddhist chic" or "buddhist advertising". Great packed images back there. This sight is hand made for your inner eye: Your way with hues, and contrasts, and intensities just grabs a shot like this. And with the tiny fish beneath giving delicate strands to the whole, the picture's complete. Terrific.
(Btw, if you ever saw the television show "Breaking Bad," the guy here looks a little like Walter White, the Meth cook from that show.)
