Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

very moody capture with expressive shadows making it to an abstract artwork! ;o)

I like the adulterated one. The parts of this image are so much of what I like! Lines, shadows, light ... it's marvelous!

having not seen the whole building, I don't know if this stairwell fits in, but isn't it amazing how people put modern stairwells in older buildings? They can really work, don't get me wrong, but on paper it always seems a risk. Anyway, I love what you did with it: In zoom, we see your terrific postwork, you've made it almost a 1980's painting, an abstract, with shadows of many hues, and a wonderful grain. Without the bannister and windows, this could pass for an abstract for sure. Really fine work, and ditto the monochrome: You brought this stairwell to life.
(a vaudeville joke: A guy says to a doctor, "I fell down a flight of stairs." The doctor says: "Did ya miss a step?" The guy says: "Nope. I hit every one...")

I like both images. Your postwork here give a sandstone-like texture to the wall that I really like.

Excellent in both forms...but I like the digifiddled one best.

The shadows are more prominent in the flickr image and they are the star in my opinion. Wonderful play of light and shadow.

I love what you've done here, Andrea! just enough postwork to make it pop out but not so much as to overshadow the image

This is exactly the kind of thing that catches my eye when out and about in the world, these little collusions of light and shape...wonderful shot and postwork!
