Description
The Cathedral of St. Christopher is the seat of the Archbishop of Havana but it is not the only attraction at the Plaza de la Catedral. It is not even the most important or popular attraction. That honor is held by the Cigar Man. He is an elderly man who dresses in fancy clothes and walks around with an enormous cigar. For fifty cents he will pose for you. For a dollar he will pose WITH you, flirt outrageously with your wife and mug for the camera. He has found a wonderful way to have some fun and supplement his pension.

He has a REALLY big cigar! What a character! Photogenic, too... I'm afraid that isn't something I could consider as a part-time job in my retirement!

a real delight! A wonderful pair of shots of a real street performer. It's just grand. I love both poses. This guy obviously loves to ham it up, and you caught him doing it in grand style. And there are real spectator shoes (you'd mentioned them in my gallery), in all their glory. I assume this is part of what makes Havana an amazing place: He's near a great cathedral, but he represents a jazzy, high profile street actor, with a cigar big enough to smoke out half the island! Terrific street capture. High style. (I smoked cigars years ago, and we would've flipped for a cigar that big. You ever have Cuban cigars? Though I'm no expert, I just remember they were sooooooooooo smooth, it was like smoking silk. Don't know if I'm close on that, but it's what I remember, and I never had a cigar like it since. If I smoked one today, I'd probably pass out...) A delight. Love these shots.

Oh, he's quite the charmer!! That's the biggest cigar I've ever seen, does he really smoke it? And how and when did you get to Cuba--it's a place I've always wanted to see!!

I've seen other pictures of senior cigar-smoking Cubans, but not this guy. Maybe the others have retired and he's the new breed of street model. What a terrific outfit, and an entertaining gentleman!
