Description

In a perfect world with no pollution we could enjoy many more beautiful lichens like this. And idiots like the man near me who jet-washes the trees outside his house would be eliminated. This is a Parmelia, probably P. perlata, which I lifted from the pavement onto this BT junction box to photograph as i like the clean background. There is a different sort Here

wow, Andrea, both photos are amazing...most of us see lichens without ever seeing what they really look like. Even after studying them in school (80 million years ago), I forget how complex they are. Amazing macros, and this pic looks like a big piece of lettuce. Beautiful. And the water spots make for a perfect backdrop...

Always I'm filled with wonder about all the shapes and colours which show the lichen. Therefore, I like this shot very much, Andrea. And it's like a doodle, a green one this time :)

What a fantastic image! You make this lichen look so alien & exotic - truly outstanding...

Two great captures. This one definitely needs to be zoomed to see all the lichen goodness. And what a callous neighbor you have. Frank Gardiner may be on to something. If the tree is municipal property then Mr. Jet Wash is damaging public property. It wouldn't hurt to snap a picture of him at work and send it in.

This is just beautiful! You folks in more northern and wetter climes are so lucky to have such a variety of lichen. Great shot!
