Description
The Orange Julia butterfly (Dryas iulia) is found in southern parts of TX and FL. These were seen at the nature center and were "brand new".
They had very recently hatched and this was their first order of business.
No one perfectly guessed the identity of the shapes in my previous abstract upload.
Klaus (Hendesse) came the closest when he used the word "scale" in his comment "scale armor of an animal".
Mark (anahata.c) came closer than he realized when he said "Someone with way too many teeth".
Actually, they are the grey scales of a long abandoned Longnose Gar (fish) carcass seen lying on the lake shore.
They have wicked long, sharp teeth. The rainbow coloring I added in postwork.
Thanks for playing along in the guessing game and thanks very much for your views and comments. :)

a velvety capture of these beautiful creatures, their wings are like suede or velvet, and we can nearly count the hair on their heads. They're such complex creatures, this close up; and with them in this union, they seem to be one creature with two heads and bodies. Amazing how you got their slanted legs, holding themselves up and not falling over. And there's another butterfly below who almost appears to be watching. (Nosy little thing!) It must take lots and lots of experience in capturing insects and all animals to be able to get intimate moments like this, so clearly. You do that a lot! Beautiful detail and softness, and a great pose. I can almost hear one of them saying "don't push so hard, I'm holding on with everything I've got..." Terrific shot, Maria.

This one is fabulously gorgeous. And, I'm glad that anahata.c leaves these eloquent comments of his so I can always refer to him and save myself constant wear and tear on my brain trying to come up with all kinds of superlatives in re your postings, Maria. So, the occasion has again risen where I can repeat: What Mark said.
