Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

I like the detail of the lanyard weaving against the darker woven background. (Surely you were never a teen then, Miss?)

exactly (tara), the contrast is wonderful. Both are fabric too...And the composition is simple and straightforward: The lanyard cuts right across the frame on a diagonal. Striking set-off shot, with lots of texture and real presence. And you say you made this to hold a "Bosun's pipe?? Forgive my ignorance, but is that a pipe that a bosun smokes? Or a pipe for a boat? If it's for former, so you were dating a bosun??? Lol, most of the teens I knew dated fellow school mates, but maybe you went out with pirates! Hangin' out at the docks, waiting for your sweetheart to come back from the high seas...Well whatever it was for, it's a sharp contrasted capture with wonderful texture. And it's cool you saved this all these years. (Ok! I looked up "bosun's pipe": So it's a whistle, a pipe one plays for a call. All's forgiven! You didn't date pirates at age 15...it could've been a great life, though...)

Impossible to come up with anything original after those two... :p So I'll just repeat: a texture-fest! Wonderful pattern seen close enough to count the individual fibers in each strand!

Very nice capture Andrea.

Very cool that you still have this from your teens! Takes skill and patience to master these kinds of knots, so well done you!

Wonderful knot work (If it's knot work then what is it? Sorry, couldn't help it.) A must zoom to see the fantastic texture and details.
