You might spot me at Kirra Beach, the South-Eastern end of the Gold Coast, Australia,  if you like beach walking like myself... but there is more ! My son Jeff (*jif3d*, here at Rendo, it helps to advertise, ooops)... he took this pic of me in 2000, then manipulated it in photo-shop and it's still one of my favourites. Just very briefly about my past... *born in East Prussia; *grew up in Berlin, West Germany; *migrated to "OZ" in 1960, (not the Wizard of Oz) but...AUSTRALIA ! I guess  I was more into '2D' since early childhood, and thinking that my son Jeff may have inherited some of my artistic skills, because he translated them into '3D'. I am hooked on photography, since I discovered cameras... that's it in a nutshell. BTW - one of my fav.quotes.... ** I cannot give you the formula for success, but I can give you the formula for failure - which is trying to please everybody !**                                              that's a wrap... Cheers Brigitte.

there is that vulture-like appearance that would make a person think twice before approaching this one. Great capture

what a great capture. a new bird for me, but I do not know much about our fine feathered friends

How great to have another post from you! And see, this is what I'm talkin' about (returning your return-volley): Design sense! This is a really well designed photo, with that altogether bizarre and amazing looking creature---kind of a street thug among birds---standing on the edge of a graceful birdbath, now grungy from weather and wear; and that leaf pointing back at the bird-mobster, and not takin' any ____ from anyone. That leaf is just as tough as that bird. I love the composition: It's bold, confrontational, contrasted, and even fun---if it's possible to have fun with this hit-man-of-a-bird standing there. And you got real detail and strong hue on the bird too: That head looks almost made out of metal and plastic, it's so visceral. (With that red eye? You sure he doesn't work for the mob? Or maybe a vampire?) And a sea of bokeh'd greens and browns in the background...This is a Brigitte shot! I love it. And there are birds that are just plain renegade: Gulls can be that way. Buzzards, vultures, and some others. They just didn't get the 'memo' on bird etiquette...they hung out with the wrong crowd, and grew up thugs, lol. The root of "corniculatus" is "corn," which means "horn". So this is a bird with a big horn---in other words, he's loud! And he's complaining about something in your shot! (Probably telling the leaf to "get outa my territory!") Terrific. Hope your coming summer is splendid, Brigitte, and great to see you here, as always!

What an odd looking little fellow. If you hadn't named it I might have called it the Witch Bird or the Old Crone for the large wort on its beak. I agree with Mark, nice sharp capture and a brilliant composition.

I was expecting to see little cuties! Well, I think he is a very interesting character! Your capture is fantastic and I am going to read more about Philemon the noisy! I hope he will not take over and scare the other birds. Your photo is wonderful!!! Thank you for sharing, Brigitte!

Ah yes, the mini-vulture-bird taking over the bath and looking tough, but if you could actually hear them, they are quite funny with their different pitched squawks and not that scary at all !
Neat DOF and Vulture...LOL
~Cheers~

A strange bird with an impressive beak! I looked on wikipedia for "philemon corniculatus" and I saw that in French he is called "polochion criard" and that you must live in the east of Austalie, since he is only at this place, lol! Nice capture, Brigitte!

WOW! Brigitte, that is indeed a scary looking bird. I thought it was sick :) Super shot of it though.

What an unusual bird this is for me, asking myself: "is this real, do this kind really exist"??? And then your stunning, and such clear photo, dear BB-chen, it's fabulous the way you shows this kind of monster. And indeed, his head resembles that of a vulture. So he's complaining here? It suggests to me it is a demanding customer, and he looks pedantic too. I really hope he will not pick you, sweetheart with those sharp beak. Again an excellent shot, it couldn't be better, and so interesting too! Stay well and safe there in your amazing little Bird World, meine Liebe!

Wow Brigitte this is a fabulous capture of this unusual looking bird. I've never seen one like this before and I can see how you would think that he looks a bit like a little vulture with that beady little red eye and the bald head. He's cool.

A very cool bird - the beak, the red eye & the claws give it a kind of sinister look. Fine shot...
