Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Just for a second I thought the monitor had gone wrong, then I thought no Andrea should go to Specsavers.

I love that you called this "gull". What a great viewpoint for this shot! Yeah, I did preservation work eons ago, and it was really hard to convince people to get landmark status (ie, protecting architecture from the wrecking ball), because it cost money to maintain them; and the cries were, "who's gonna pay us to maintain these???" Legitimate arguments; but, also, landlords tore down masterpieces for sheer greed...But it's a beautiful old turret, and your color manipulation---against a dark maroon sky---brings out it's electricity. (In Chicago people actually paint these houses this way. It's eye popping.) Love the street lamp shooting out on the right; and the lone gull atop---so important, he got an upload named after him. And btw, the flickr version is riotous---a fine manipulation, and with that "Pizza Hut" sign? What a juxtaposition! I love them both. And I can picture the gull shouting, "ok, this is the right angle, capture me like this...(whispering) it's for my family..."

With the right background, this could make a very exciting painting, Couldnt it? I like this alot.

It seems that the gull is crying ;) Maybe he is calling his friends. Very nice work Andrea.

Picture yourself in a boat on a river With tangerine trees and marmalade skies Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly A girl with kaleidoscope eyes ~ Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds
My first thought when seeing this. A brilliant manipulation. I like the iridescent colors and the gull is obviously playing at being a weathervane. The flikcr image looks like a fine pencil drawing.
