wow, andrea, another of your macros that just opens nature up for us. For one thing, that log is so 'different', closeup: The outermost layer is like a big cliff falling down to more cliffs. And the outer rings are like compressed melon-slices. The inner rings are a big abyss, which this bee seems tired even thinking about. And the detail on his "fur" is beautiful. He looks exhausted; but, as you say, maybe he's just drying out. I looked up "bumble" and found it was related to "boom" (the noise); thus he's named for his noise (made by his wings). I don't know why I just told you that, as you probably knew anyway...but I've heard "bumble bee" all my life, and I was getting tired of not knowing why we call it that. Anyway, an amazing macro, and the light in it is stunning.
