Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

I happen to love this one. I have spent some time looking back at your gallery as well as the flicker one. After looking at your work I like that you post portraits of yourself that show who you are. You have a beautiful face that shows the life you have had. You have not erased the life from your face with airbrush tools. Seems that so much is artificial now. Even the people. Beautiful self portrait.

Beautiful example of your artistic self...love the B&W and the background art as well.

Like the photo portraits you've posted of other people, your face has a lot of character & conveys a feeling that you're comfortable in your own skin...

Please don't retouch my wrinkles. It took me so long to earn them. ~Anna Magnani

strong and fearless, as Mark says, and also introspective and serious. Pensive even. You have shadow on one side, and a darkened neck, and while that may be how the light worked, it feels like a choice too, as it brings out inward feelings as well as public ones. You really have very expressive eyes and gaze, and a quiet inner beauty; and shots like this bring out a thought-invoking inward side to you. As a shot, the composition between the throw/blanket and the mirror is fine. As is your painterly postwork with the objects in the mirror. A very fine self-portrait, and very honest. Beautiful, Andrea.
And you don't have to explain or apologize for showing self-portraits. You know, from all your experience in art, how many painters did self portraits throughout their lives, and how penetrating and even searing some of them were. (Imagine cutting off your ear and then having the guts to paint it!) I'll look at your self portraits anytime you want to share them...

If I did a self portrait a lot of people would be suing me for new monitor screens

What the Marks have said is all exactly what I feel; you have earned your face and it's something to be proud of. And having been privileged enough to spend time in your company, I feel lucky to know you. This is the face of a woman and artist that I very much admire!

I shall look at your face as many times as you want to put it in front of us. :) If I may be so bold ... it gives me a sense of comfort to see an old friend who I've not yet met in person. (It's been over eight years that we've both been here. It seems rather hard to believe!)
