Description
It is very easy to get caught up in the beauty of the landscape in the Alsace region of France. However, if you plan to eat out somewhere rather than brown bagging, it is a good idea to keep an eye on the time because my experience has proven to be that if it is after 2 pm you will not be served lunch. If you are lucky you might get a drink somewhere, but no food for those who break the 2 pm rule. We arrived in Rouffach, France in hopes of a lovely French lunch, but alas, as you can see by the clock on the church tower, we were too late. It was a lovely town to look at and we did get a soda, but we had to wait until after 5 or 6 (I do not recall for sure because I was food-deprived at the time). In any case, it seemed like a long wait to me. I was proud of myself that as we continued our journey through many wonderful vineyards I managed to control my urges to pick a bunch of delicious-looking grapes to feast on. It was the thought of languishing in a French prison that kept me in check. :)

I've experienced the same thing - no 24 hour restaurants out in the French countryside & you do need to be aware of the time. I like the way you've framed this Gothic church with it's old stones, architectural details & that one gargoyle leaning out at lower left...

Hehe! I think it's quite civilised to eat at set times! Lovely photo !

A beautiful clock, but not a good time for lunch in Alsace. I have already experienced the same. A very nice shot.

I would probably starve to death! LOL! We usually eat breakfast around 10:30 or 11:00, and lunch at 3:00.
A beautiful photograph!

Are the markets also closed? I would buy a loaf of bread, a bottle of wine and some good fromage and feast on them. Or you can be like the Americans and fill your pockets with chocolates. With such beautiful architecture it must be easy to forget the time.
