Description

Helle asked if I had more artwork to show and I told her I would look. I am a slow artist. I struggle with every line or brush stroke. So naturally I love the wonderful freestyle work done by Helle, Yves, Mies and Andrea to name a few. They can whip out several wonderful pieces of art in the time it takes me to decide what to do. But, I have managed to complete a few pieces. This one is an oil painting I did back in 2011. It is the only piece I can think of that I did totally from my own work from start to finish. I usually do something that is inspired by the art of others, such as my Dali-inspired Burning Giraffe posted earlier. But this painting I did from photos I took myself one day in early spring at Utah Lake near Provo, Utah, USA. I dedicate it to Helle and apologize for missing her birthday while I was on my break from Renderousity.

a very beautiful oil painting. I was being taught by a nationally known artist in exchange for cleaning her studio once a week. however my son's mother kept saying that I was there for more than learning. even though she was full of BS, I quit going. my second painting was sold to a Mexican restaurant. after that I did not pursue any longer

Too bad about your son's mother harassing you about your lessons. If you already sold one I think you should start up again if you enjoy it.

... thought this was a photo at first, and a timely one to post.

Cameras are quicker, but art and beauty are not about "time" , and I consider any personal effort of creation to be a thing of beauty. Warm colors and lovely lake scene.

OHHH WOW! It is absolutely wonderful. I love all about it. I love how you made the evening sun shine in the water and the silhouettes of the people in peace and harmony. A very lovely painting. Thank you so much for this dedi :-) Hope it is hanging on your wall. :)

Alas, It was left behind in the states as it was too large for me to bring along.

with a birthday painting like this, you can be as late as you wish---this is beautiful. And while you say you struggle, and go stroke at a time, the result shows a free and gentle vision that flows as smoothly as ever. Your labor is absorbed into the art, in other words. A gentle moody vision of a Utah lake, with beautiful light in the water (both in front of and behind the ice floes), and a beautiful 'thought-on' sky---ie, as if you painted it with nothing but 'thought'---and equally swept-on mountains. I see Helle loves it, as do others; and yes, you should post paintings whenever you wish, and have them to share. Beautiful, and a beautiful gift for Helle.

Oh my gosh, Kat, this is absolutely stunning! I've been there. Bill and I camped in the motorhome at an RV park not far from the lake. It was October, 2013, as I recall. The weather was still warm, and winter hadn't set in yet. Utah Lake has to be one of the most beautiful settings in the world. The mountains in that area are spectacular. Your painting is so well done it brings back memories like it was yesterday. Brilliant work, and what a glorious gift for Helle's birthday! :) The light on the water is masterfully done. Don't worry about how long it takes you to make a painting. If you enjoy the process, it isn't a problem! :) I've got a digital painting in my gallery that I just love, and it took me one evening. There's another one I like just as well, and it took months. It's the process that's fun, right? :)

Yes, you are correct about the fun. I just hate to give people the idea that I am in any way a "real" artist that can produce art quickly and masterfully. I am very happy to hear that you could recognize the place from my painting.

Oh my, you did great here again, dear one! I love the subtle transitions, all different shades that come out everywhere, and I love the atmosphere, as well as the very fine chosen warmth in the colors. Bravo Katharine.
