Description
Slowly I am trying to catch up with the birthdays I missed while I was gone. Mies, I hope you had a wonderful birthday with many more to come. Health and happiness to you now and always. I love your art. This is one of the pieces I have done since coming to the Netherlands. It is watercolor on white paper. I hope to get better at watercolor because I love how the real artists can make it look so free and flowing.
Thank you for all the inspiration and encouragement you give me.
Een dikke knuffel en een laat gefeliciteerd. (a big hug and late congratulations)

This is beautiful! Why on earth you don't consider yourself to be a "real" artist is beyond me. You have an exquisite style. The subtle colors and the reflection in the water is absolutely lovely. More, please! You do such wonderful work!

Hi dear Katherine ! I'm not sure, but did you mean me, dear one? I feel so honored, if this is really so !!! It is the most lovely tulip in watercolor I ever saw, so tender and so gentle; even the shadows are very beautiful. I thank you from the bottom of my heart, lieve vriendin. I just wanted to write you a site-mail, and then I saw your impressive gallery, with all those captivating photographs, even in much diversity. I will try to come again to your gallery soon. Dank je wel lieve Katherine, and all my love voor mijn nederlandse kunst-vriendin.

Yes, I did mean you even though your birthday is passed already. I was not visiting Renderousity then because I was studying to pass my inburgering exams. Now I have passed them all so I have returned to enjoy looking, commenting and posting here again.

A beautiful introspective painting, with a feeling of inward repose. Not only from the tilt of the tulip lying on what appears to be water (or some reflective surface), but from your deep shadows, and your introspective purplish hues. Your background has more going on in it than meets the eye: a quiet mix of purples, grays and white. And the overall feeling is one of real repose. You painted the veins on the petals very sweetly too (esp on the inner petals). I think you handled watercolors very well; this feels almost like pastels, which isn't easy to do with watercolors. I know, from my experience, that w.colors can be a very difficult medium; and I frankly don't know how people get immense detail and crispness with such a flowing medium. A touching and introspective painting. And a beautiful piece for Mies, who is genuinely appreciative.
(I had to look up "inburgering exams"---so you had to pass them to satisfy the government? I assume it's part of citizenship, something like that? I'm glad you passed them, and they're over. That kind of thing can be a big burden...)
