Description
The Ego is the conscious part of the Es, the conscious tip of that iceberg is the Es. The Super-Ego differentiates man from animal; It is the seat of moral conscience and guilt.
The question is: What Freud had eaten the night before go to sleep to develop this theory ????

Ah, memories of my Father reading us Freud's lecture on Psychoanalysis when we were children. Freud's theory of id, ego and superego seem a rewrite of devil, self, and guardian angel. It is a rationalization of how people see the world due to the human condition. Humans evolved to live in environment a, humans created environment b that they actually live in. Their instincts tell them to do a which does not work in b, so their instincts mislead them and hurt them. So 'the devil' tempts, consciousness is torn, and 'the angels' tell us the path to virtue. Traditional social norms are the product of memesis or cultural evolution. They are in conflict with our natural instincts the product of biological evolution or genesis. The produces a conflict which is rationalized and given names by religion and Freud. Freud really was quite a wise observer of human nature and many of his rules for the behavior of psychological professionals would improve our modern psychological community. The artwork is lovely but it doesn't say Freud to me.
