Well, well, well...:))) !! I know that you LOVE this shoes a lot. Mark:) and that they were part of an important event, together with YOU!! so, i ran Lisbon and i found another pair for YOU! Better have more than one:))) I HOPE you like the *gift* :))... i wanted to give you a better thing, lol, but i was not able...so, at least i hope that i could give you a SMILE today!! I hope i could:) And Mark, You have been one of my best friends, since long time. I never tire to say how i feel blessed and grateful for your deep friendship and for you being part of my life. I am immensely grateful for all your love and care, for your humor and your kindness and ALSO--and i have to repeat:for your wonderful Art with which you grace us all, all the time:) You are precious! *thank you* is a very tiny word, but it comes deep from my heart. So,Thank you dear Mark:) and i wish YOU a Happy and blessed Birthday. That SPRING brings to YOU, much health, much inspiration, creativity and the very best of EVERYTHING! You deserve all that and much more! Oh, Ana, the shoes! The shoes! LOL! I giggled when I saw your smiling fence walker carrying Mark's beautiful shoes around. And all the colorful orbs and circles and suns, and the line drawing cartoon ... yes yes yes, it's perfect! :D You have captured so much of Mark's "Mark-ness" in this. How wonderful! You leave me with a smile that will last all day! :D

I've loved your cartoon-paintings for a long time, but I never dreamt you'd put my shoes in them, lol---and those shoes, especially! (They're called "Spectator Shoes," because they were worn by very rich British people for "spectator" events---like Polo, or parades. But when the shoes came to America, they were worn by jazz musicians and gangsters---that fits me, doesn't it?). I love how you put those shoes into the hands of one of your wonderful cartoon figures, walking on a ledge or a balcony railing, almost dancing, and free as a bird. I love your cartoon figures...painted in white against your deep-blue "ana" skies...but this figure is carrying my shoes! I love this, Ana. And the balloons and moon are all little orbs of light and joy (as tara points out---and I agree with tara that you captured a lot of me in this, my "Mark-ness," lol). But this is also all 'you'---I could never make a cartoon like this! And your cartoon figures are always on the earth, but ready to fly and dance...This is beautiful, I love it. (Helle was right, I adore this!) And thank you so much for all you wrote: You know that I feel the same, Ana, and this drawing is just one of the things that makes you such a blessing to me, and to everyone else who knows you. This is a wonderful birthday gift; and I know it wasn't easy for you to make this (with your life commitments), and I'm truly and deeply grateful.
