Description

I just took my first vacation in 14 years. I really needed it. I want to Florida for 10 days. There were dozens of these little brown anole lizards there. The males were very intent on getting the girls attention. They flair out their throat to show their colors. I also found that they do this to intimidate when I got to close. As they are only 4-5 inchs long, I chose to keep taking pictures!

nice capture I always wondered about that also like...is this little lizard serious ? its funny how they do that...as if you are really going to get intimidated by them

But you must remember in his mind he is at least 20 feet long 4 foot tall ! I forgot to mention that when trying to intimidate me he would also rapidly stomp his feet. I was very afraid .....

Aha! Vacation! No wonder you were off-line! I missed you! Yes, these little fellows are something! They blow up their dewlap and expect the female to be turned on (much like vain, pompous humans do, too). They really DO take it seriously, or there wouldn't be any anoles left in the world. And 2 males can fight to the death over a female instead of chasing after another female. And the foot stomping is also for attracting a female. He maybe thought he was attracting you! And that he was 20 feet long and 4 feet high. In fact, they can bite (er, I mean nip!). Cute, fun little animals. Only live about a year, though. They do make nice pets, but, being reptiles (cold blooded), they can be rather sluggish. Keep up the good work, Bev! Any chance of seeing more of these little cuties? :-)
