Description

It was on 'Mother's Day' [in May] when I spotted a very energetic young girl at Bilinga Beach, let's call her 'Melanie' (Bilinga is a couple of km from my favourite Kirra Beach) and she was practicing cartwheels for her Mum and me and who can resist a photo opportunity like this ? I took dozens of action shots, not an easy thing to do with this little pocket-rocket kid, somehow the pose reminds me of a Yoga position, what do you think ? *** Cheers Brigitte

Awesome action shot and incredible post work Brigitte.

Like the color tones you used they all fit so perfect.

Great timing, sounds like your camera got a big workout too.

She sure makes this look easy, nothing I ever accomplished, always fell to one side or the other. Smiles.

Looks like a nice warm day to be at the beach, not hot enough here to enjoy this yet.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful work Brigitte, great job.

Fantastic image and outstanding post work.

This is fascinating because what your young lady has done with her body is to create an ancient Japanese symbol known as a Tomoe. You can see it here along with a description.

Thanks for that info Mark...

Tomoe (Mitsu tomoe, Futatsu tomoe, Tomoe-mon, Fire-wheel)

Mitsu tomoe. This symbol is ubiquitous on Buddhist and Shinto temples all over Japan. Its name is tomoe, meaning turning or circular, referring to the motion of the earth. The tomoe is related to the yin yang symbol, and has a similar meaning, representing the play of forces in the cosmos. Visually, the tomoe is made up of interlocked flames (or magatama) resembling tadpoles.

Another Brigitte "special". This is a Brigitte vision if ever there was one. I love it. I love how you simplified the hues, with black and red and yellow. I love how you let the reds and yellows "bleed into each other"---like they're forcing themselves into each other's territory. I love the huge feeling of the young girl, dominating the shot. And you left her off-center---fine cropping! And how the right side is a vast shoreline, flat and forever, with that massive skyline in the distance. And one lone walker on the left, way behind Melanie. She seems to give the energy to the whole landscape---and you included her shadow too. I love what you do to a picture, I don't know if you realize what a deep intuitive eye you have. And I read the comments (deserved praise), and I checked out Mark's comment (always do), and I love the comparison to the Tomoe. The idea of continuous waves is common throughout the ancient asian world, and the Tomoe (and its roots) is one of the most beautiful of them all. (In fact, the ancient Indian---Asian Indian---swastika is another example. Yes, it was tainted by the Nazis, but they stole it from way back in yogic times, though they probably didn't know that's where it came from. It was another symbol of the flow and waves of life.) Melanie is like a big wave, setting the universe in motion. Thank you, Mark! And, I sometimes forget that you were an instructor, and therefore know so many body movements (incl dance) (I read your fine comment on Mark's dance montage). So it's fitting that you find these kinds of body movements so naturally. Finally, yes, it looks like a yoga posture: I couldn't do it----I'd be in bed for 2 months! But maybe you can! In any case, it's a wonderful image. Great job. And now I'll end the longest paragraph in history. (Why don't I make 2 or 3 paragraphs? Why is that? It's gotta be a royal headache to read my comments...)

What I think, dear one? : "That it was you, coming out of the water by walking on your hands; because on this way your hair would be dry earlier, do you understand, BB*-chen? 😀 But seriously, it's a beautiful picture, with equally contrasting post work. And then also a mysterious atmosphere you've put into it. A WOW-photo, dear Gitti!
