Description
Hi,
Supermarine Seafire Mk III, (the only flying Merlin engined one worldwide), left the Westland works in July 1943.. She transferred to 809 Squadron and served on HMS Attacker and Stalker..
On 7th March, 1945, HMS Stalker left with her to join East Indies Fleet.. Six CVE' were sent to re-occupy Singapore.. She undertook flight in Operation 'Tiderace the 'Dracula covering the landings at Rangoon..
Her actual list of operation's is far to long but she served until 1949.. It might be noted the last Japanese aircraft shot down was by a Supermarine Seafire III..
She then served on with the French..
In 2012 she retuned to the UK looking somewhat worn and battered.. She flew again in these colours only last year and I saw her public début..
The last....

Beautiful shot! But I don't quite get your "only flying Merlin engined one worldwide". Is it the only one with a Merlin in it, or...??? What I really like here is the sun/shadow and the camouflage paint. And the prop blur gives an impression of speed and power. Impressive history. Glad such a plane has escaped destruction! Keep up the good work! :-)

T.Rex has it down exactly withe light and camo. I always like seeing a plane in the "different" Allied markings used in the Pacific Theater.

Smashing Rob! Great angle even revealing the pilot.
