Description

The church contains an 18th-century wooden statue of Christ, "The Lord of the True Cross" ("El Señor de la Vera Cruz") which is an object of particular reverence in Trinidad. Originally destined for a church in Veracruz in Mexico, the ship carrying the statue was driven back to Trinidad three times by bad weather and was only able to make the journey after abandoning part of its cargo which included the statue of Christ. This was taken as divine intervention by the local population and the statue has been housed in the church ever since. Also housed within the building is a large Gothic revival altar dedicated to Our Lady of Mercy (Nuestra Señora de la Piedad). (from Wikipedia)

Fine architecture, I do like the ceiling arches and can imagine them highlighted with some special coloured lights at night... (but never like some of those gaudy coloured clothes).

alida has it...awesome, esp in full view. It swoops down until we end in all this visual detail. Esp strong, coming from the looming light above. Man, that celling is white! And such contrast with the altar and seats. The acoustics must have been wonderful. (Could you hear people whisper on the other end of the place?) Zoomed, we see the intricate tracery of the altar (which I realize is coming in the next upload), and the people give it scale. Hard to believe this is the same church as that almost-monolithic facade. Another big descending shot from you, love it full view.
