Description

As we approached the city of Camguay (come away) we passed through its version of the suburbs. This was a fairly common scene as we drove along the main highway into town. One thing I noticed was that no matter how humble the neighborhood or the homes in it the people always tried to make their surroundings colorful.

At first i thought "Oh no, he ruined a great shot with an effect filter", but looking at the picture in full size i changed my mind ... This is, imho, one of the rare cases were the filter adds something to the image - maybe because of the strong colors of the houses. And the two people to the left are the touch that make this image a real looker 8=)

AND, the place is CLEAN. No trash! Unlike a lot of places in this world. Nice photo. The most exciting thing in these people's lives must be the passing of a train. Keep up the good work! :-)

I like the filter too Mark...has the look of a watercolor. How's life in LA treating you?

Hi Bill! Just trying to keep up. Some days I win, some days I lose. You and Tara are an inspiration. Got me thinking about traveling again. I getting closer and closer to planning a trip across country on the motorcycle. Maybe try for Sturgis next year.

I'm just back for a few per gallery, this week, but in your case I usually wind up doing more, as I find it hard to pull away. I was SURE I commented on this, as it was the last of a series I'd commented on (and the last before you stopped posting a while). You used an oil paint treatment, but you also got an effect of taking a paintbrush across the photo itself, and getting this luminous wash all over it. It softens edges, intensifies colors---though I know they're pretty intense to begin with---and gives a gritty lived-in feeling to the houses, because they feel so touched, so used and molded out of still soft clay.

Also, you have a fine angle, with the tracks cutting across on a downward angle (right to left). And how it makes counterpoint to the facades. Yes, those are beautifully colored facades, and they say a lot about the human spirit. And you got lots of sky here, a big balance to the intensity below. Fine work on this, and I really like the photo to begin with. (And I love the two people running on the far left, with what looks to be an umbrella...) Zoomed, it's a big swath of humanity in a very intimate setting.
