Description

Captured way back on 10/3/09, at the beautiful San Diego Botanic Garden, just north of the city of San Diego in beautiful Encinitas, California. This is the first orchid show I attended, but, in my eager anticipation, I foolishly neglected to bring along my tripod, because when you shoot non-flash pictures of flowers indoors, you definitely need a blooming tripod! Especially when the indoor lighting is poor and the background third rate like this one was. Anyway, there were some real beauties in attendance so I took a ton/tonne of hand held orchid shots, and, despite my essential tremor, was fortunate in most cases that they came out relatively sharp. Several were scrapped because they were too blurry. Live and learn. As a result, I was well armed some months later when I went to the orchid show in San Marino. And, thanks to the Photoshop gods for postwork tools. ZOOM if you are so inclined.

You should use a tripod for indoor photographs of flowers. Increasing the ISO brings only disappointment.
