Description

Oregon Coast May, 2016 A tree fell over, its roots exposed to salt air and wind and rain. The wood has become silver with age, pared down to its essential being-ness. .................. Lucinda myrrhluz was here for a visit this weekend. Knowing Bill and I were working on our genealogies, she brought genealogy information from her side of the family, as well as her husband's. I've never met Lucinda's husband, but I know her younger son, James. (We met Lucinda here on Renderosity, by the way.) So Friday night after we got all settled in for the evening, we started pouring over lists of names and relationships, looking for something familiar. Way back in the early 1600s, my direct ancestor, Jonathan, had a brother named Nathaniel, who is a direct ancestor to James through his father's side. So James are I are 11th cousins, twice removed. We both think this is pretty cool! :) Here is a picture of James, Bill, and Lucinda from a couple of years ago: The Reveal It is, indeed, a small world!

You have a gift for finding a unique, non-obvious POV. I'm pretty sure I never would have thought of composing a shot like this, but it makes perfect sense & is very satisfying. Glad to hear you're enjoying tracing your own roots...

An outstanding composition. Reminds me of an Ent (tree creature) from Lord of the Rings.

Yes, if people talk together long enough, they can end up discovering, they are family. Love that tree. Looks like a deer :)

A wonderful photo of this old tree - very appropriate to your study of your "roots," Tara!

My dad did a ton of genealogy research while he was still in good health - happily I have all his files and research. I hope once I retire I'll have time to grab an updated copy of Family Tree Maker and continue with it.

tara, I'm having spotty experiences on RR, and I want to put up a bday dedi if I can, so I'll comment on this, do the dedi, and if I'm still connected, I'll come back for your opulent, subtle, creamy lily shot. Just know I loved it, in case I don't get around to it tonight. (Many people aren't having rr issues, but some are. Claude said he was, in his galler. They don't last long...)

Re the image: Ditto Andrea. A Henry Moore sculpture---yes! And I agree with Claude 100%. For me, this is a tree whose light is on the 'other side', and you let us see that other side from "within the shadows": Wonderful pov choice. The sky is bleached white, the trees stand against it with sharp leafy relief, and the light on the opposite side of the tree is powerful and bright. But WE see the back of it---all depth and mystery. (You captured the mystery of trees.) (And they're filled with mystery.) What the tree's little children might see, as they walk in the shadow of their mother. And the tree hits the ground as if it's crossing its legs to relax, and spreads out across the bottom of the frame. Terrific intuitive choices, Tara. Another insightful, beautifully articulated shot from master photographer Tara...

Re the genealogy: Astonishing that you're related to James! You couldn't do better than have Lucinda's family connected to yours. I'm thrilled you saw Lucinda, who's a dear soul; and you found another historical connection. It's great how this genealogy has become a new light in your lives. And I remember the shot of you guys and Lucinda, and it's a beauty. I'm so glad she visited. (Did she sing you any opera? Any Mozart???) If you find any relatives related to a bunch of short Jews in Russia, gimme a call! (Now THAT would be a surprise! I really doubt you and Bill have any "Moishe"s or "Schmulke"s in your past...)
