Description

Artwork by J.O. Davidson and a similar painting Xanthus Smith depict the surrender of the Confederate ram Tennessee at the Battle of Mobile Bay. This render is based on these historical pieces, especially Davidson's. The double turreted monitor USS Winnebago is in the middle distance at left, the smoking Tennessee in the middle and the USS Chickasaw in the foreground. Just behind the Chickasaw, Admiral Farragut's flagship, the USS Hartford, steams toward the Tennessee. The Union ship visible just behind the Confederate ram may be the Ossipee, which accepted the surrender. I used My Albemarle ironclad as a stand-in for the Tennessee, and a slightly modified Cumberland from Ships of the Civil War stands in for the Hartford. The Chickasaw and Winnebago are variants of my USS Winnebago model. The environment is the water from Daz's Lake Village and the background is one of my own photos, supplemented by several smoke layers. The wakes are from Spacebone's Wakes OBJ collection. The scene was composed and rendered in Poser 11 Pro and touched in Corel Photo Paint.
