Description
Captured way back on 10/18/09 at the statue section of the beautiful Huntington Botanical Center and Conservatory in beautiful San Marino, California. This is a bona fide ancient carving imported from Southeast Europe, and there were two long rows of them to peruse.
So who is that dude? I don't know about the wings, but with that hour glass and scythe he's holding, it could be Father Time or perhaps the Grim Reaper.

You were pondering who this dude is: When I first saw this, I thought of my father's old Yiddish word: Ungepotched. (Or verblunget. There are various spellings I'm sure.) A mixed up dude!!! He's, like, 14 different mythic characters in one---he almost looks like Moses. (Here's Michelangelo's famous Moses: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/70/%27Moses%27_by_Michelangelo_JBU160.jpg He does bear some resemblance.) But this dude has wings. And a scythe. And he's missing a tooth! In any case, you captured him--as with all the others in this series--with a simple crop, allowing the statue to come forward for us. And you caught all the decay for us too---the discoloration, mold, etc. The dappled green background makes a perfect backdrop for this man's coloring. Fine statue capture of a mythic figure with an identity crisis. Father Time/Grim Reaper is probably accurate.
