Barb, I'm at nearly an hour and I think I've done all of 7 images! I'm esp slow at these, because they're so packed. So please know that, even though I'm not doing 12 or 20 in an hour, I'm really delving into what I'm commenting on. I wish I were faster, and I'll try to return while I'm here---I would love to comment on all your mixed medium pieces, of recent vintage. But for now, this brilliant piece:
First, the clarity here is striking throughout. Very vivid, clear images. This has fairy tale elements---love that kingly frog with the crown and royal necklace. Terrific reds and royal crimsons. And the royal (or jester) leggings. Lots of attention to detail here. And great posture---theatrical (speaking of your actor friend!) in that he's facing us, but turning to her. (Never showing your side to the audience.)
And the woman is chock full of scintillating detail, on her bust---in relief almost---in her necklace, her hair, etc, along with wonderful dramatic lighting esp on her face. Great pose too, with her back foot sticking up. And then mushrooms---this is totally in fairy tale realm---and that great castle in the background---very medieval---with fine light and shadow: You use lots of dramatic shadow in these pieces. And a very blue sky, with the moon brushed over by clouds...There's clearly an encounter here---between toad and woman---but we don't know exactly what it entails, just that something is about to happen, and it's probably magical. Wonderful 'suggestion' in this, and in others of this series. And a terrifically clear and popping image. Terrific, Barb. I'll really try to come back for more. I've seen all these mixed medium pieces, more than once. But sitting with them to comment is a much deeper experience. I'll try to get them all; they're little treasures!
