Description

Yup, I shifted gears. We are in Gettysburg on Little Round Top. Yesterday's image (following) was taken just the other side of the cannon visible here. (Sorry T. Rex, not intended to be a set up) That photo gave us an unusual view down, along the Union line and shows the strategic importance of holding this terrain. Losing it would have meat retaking it or withdrawing. Neither proposition was on the table: it had to be held (20th Maine was stationed behind and to the right of this location by about 100 yards). https://www.nps.gov/gett/index.htm -- for the park https://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&aq=&oq=20th+maine&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4VRHB_enUS611US612&q=20th+maine+charge&gs_l=hp..1.0l5.0.0.1.67664...........0.wklHLEgRiNc -- for the 20th Maine. One of the Park guides was up here narrating the action that took place during the battle and the significance of some of the monuments was overheard by said Weesel. I'll touch on one of them later. He also overheard (seriously, I've got to stop) some tourist asking another: How the heck did they fight the battle with all those monuments down there? (that's straight skinny, folks. I don't always make this stuff up.) Being that this is early to mid spring, there is no foliage, so the terrain is easy to see. No stupid leaves getting in the way. (who the heck raked them?) Enjoy; thanks for viewing.

Nice photo giving us an idea of the terrain. It must have been easier to hold, and a hell to climb up. No wonder the Union won this one. Keep up the good work. :-)
