Description

Here are the guys again, this time standing on the dock at the house Brittany and Diego and their friends rented on the lake. The sun was out, and in order to get this picture, I had them close their eyes and not open them until I was ready to click the shutter. They were troupers, and later they all said they liked the shot, so it was worth a little discomfort. I neglected to mention one of the things about which they were most proud. Their socks were blue-and-white striped, and matched their ties. I wish I'd thought to get a picture of them hiking their pant legs up. It seems like one or more of them was always showing off his socks! A couple of people here on RR had mentioned the large number of participants in the wedding party. Unless you are getting married in a very small ceremony, this is a relatively common number of people to have in one's wedding over here. It's the bride and groom of course, and the officiant, and two witnesses. That's all it takes to make a marriage legal here in the U.S., and when Bill and I got married that's what we did. The only "extra" was Mandy the Dog. We didn't have any guests at all. At a "regular" wedding, where you invite guests and have a ceremony and a party afterward, the couple almost always include two or more bridesmaids and an equal number of groomsmen, in addition to the maid of honor and best man, who are the legal witnesses. A really big wedding would have nine or ten extra on each side, so Brittany and Diego's witness-plus-four-each was pretty average. There are always the same number of people on each side. Crazy, huh? ............. Our internet was down for a couple of days. Just to give you an idea of how "country" we are down here, when I called our internet provider after 24 hours to tell them we'd tried everything and had decided the problem was with the service, they said, "Yeah, ours is out too. We're waiting for it to be fixed." Now THAT is out in the sticks! LOL!

Another great capture Tara. We have much the same here for a wedding, but a lot of marriages aren't formal now with a lot choosing very simple services outside with just a few friends. I like both ways. 😀

Unusual POV. And neat trick with the eyes so they didn't squint. As for the info, my brother's wedding had 4 bride's maids and 4 best fellows. I'm glad to see nobody slipped and took a dip! What a catastrophe that would have been! Keep up the good work. I like this wedding series and your info about it and other customs. :-)

You didn't capture their socks??? Ok, I gotta say, the tones here---the way you handle light and hue---is terrific. I know the main thing is the beautiful array of these men celebrating a great moment---and you captured that to a T---but you got something so basic to good photography, and something I adore: Clarity of hue, standout light, deep dark shadow, and an angle that flattens the bunch so that they're practically on top of us: I love it! And a great background for the shot, esp from the high flattening angle; with that darkened water as backdrop. I love this pic, a photographer's mind at work. And btw, did they all wear the same shoes? They look the same. Terrific, Tara. (And the guy, back center, looks like he's about to make you a proposition involving lots of cash and a fenced station wagon. I know, he may a terrific guy---no offense if he's watching!---but that grimace...gotta love it.) Terrific portrait!
