Description
The lighthouse of Chassiron, perched on a rocky cliff, is situated in the north extremity of the Ile d'Oléron, near the city of Saint-Denis-d'Oléron. The lighthouse allows the sailors to go into waters of the pertuis of Antioch, place sowed with reefs and renowned for its numerous wrecks. It is the oldest lighthouse of France still in service after that of Cordouan.
The lighthouse of Chassiron as well as its dependences were classified in conformance with historic monuments by order of October 23rd, 2012
